Driving Change: How Uniting Communities use their Hino Hybrid-Electric for good.

Lee Sauerwald, Executive Director at Uniting Communitie

We had the pleasure of speaking with Lee Sauerwald, Executive Director at Uniting Communities, about the importance of supporting local communities across metropolitan Adelaide, as well as how their Hino Hybrid Electric has helped them in achieving their sustainability goals.

Uniting Communities is a not-for-profit organisation that has been serving South Australia since 1901, offering accessible services to over 80,000 people annually.

Donation Driving, Community Reviving.

Uniting Communities' Goodwill stores have been operating since 1952, selling new and pre-loved items at affordable prices. Currently, there are five stores across Adelaide with donation points throughout the city.

"We use our Hino Hybrid Electric to collect donations and distribute them to other locations around the city where they're needed most. Despite the long days in the cab, our driver finds the great comfort, high visibility, and low maintenance of the truck fantastic."

"We previously outsourced the job to a contractor or hired a truck which became too expensive. The next logical choice was to purchase our own Hino Hybrid Electric to do the job ourselves in a way that not only helped the community, but also helped us meet our sustainability goals."

Going Green for a Better Future.

Lee and Uniting Communities understand the impact of climate change and believe that collective action to reduce carbon emissions is crucial for the well-being of the wider community and society.

"In 2010, Uniting Communities were the first South Australian organisation and first registered charity in Australia to receive the Fleet Environment Award from the Australasian Fleet Management Association - something we are very proud of."

"As an organisation, we have been operating Hybrid vehicles for over a decade, with almost 100% of our light passenger fleet now all Hybrid Electric. Thankfully, the technology has spread to trucks, and we were able to add a Hino Hybrid Electric to our fleet."

Why Choose Hino?

"Having the Toyota Group backing gave us the confidence that we were getting a great truck - and having a Hybrid variant sealed the deal. Hino shares the same principles of quality, durability, and reliability – which is exactly what we need for all vehicles in our fleet."

"We knew the benefits of Hybrid cars, but were impressed by the added benefits that came with the Hino Hybrid Electric, like the:

"You really can't go wrong buying a Hino. The dealer will make time to understand your needs and ensure that your purchase is fit for purpose. Hino trucks are high quality, cost-effective and a versatile solution for your transport needs."

How can the public get involved or help Uniting Communities?

“There are many ways to support the work of Uniting Communities. We are so grateful for the community's support, whether through donations of people's time volunteering in one of our programs, or through financial contributions. We hope to continue providing services to the vulnerable people in our community for years to come.”
